Foundations in Telemental Health offers a comprehensive foundation in telehealth delivery for mental health professionals. It covers the ethical, legal, and practical aspects of telehealth, emphasizing essential skills and best practices for counselors, therapists, and other practitioners transitioning to or enhancing their telehealth services. This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge to offer effective, ethical, and legally compliant telehealth services.

This is an online self-paced course that consists of:

  • Video Lectures: Each course module includes video content covering legal standards, therapeutic techniques, and population-specific approaches.
  • Case Studies: Real-life scenarios help participants apply learned concepts to ethically navigate telehealth challenges.
  • Interactive Simulations: Simulated telehealth sessions allow students to practice counseling skills, focusing on rapport, crisis management, and adapting techniques for remote delivery.

Course Facilitator

Dr. Elliot Isom has 10 years of experience as a counselor educator, he has published works examining topics such as: counseling skill development, cross cultural competence, and counselor gatekeeping. Dr. Isom has presented over 20 times at the state, regional and national level over various topics and has spent much of his career involved as the CACREP Liaison at 2 institutions. Dr. Isom is a licensed counselor in Kansas and Arizona, and a Board-Certified Telehealth Professional - I. Dr. Isom's past experience consists of - first working with adolescent teens in the juvenile justice system, then for court ordered DUI groups, a domestic violence shelter, and even utilizing skills to provide academic coaching to students. Dr. Isom's current clinical engagement involves supervising students and training supervisory skills.
